Tatoo Shops Biography

Please allow me to offer a brief shop history, to make it clear that JOHNSON isn’t one of these new shops that have just recently jumped on the latest body art bandwagon.
The shop history goes back over 30 years ago to my dear old dad, Gary Eugene Johnson (right and below). He was born to Ruby Riley on Oct. 25, 1942 in East St. Louis, Illinois. In 1946, the family moved to the Wayne-Westland area just outside Detroit, Michigan, where Ruby began to notice her son's artistic inclinations. By the age of 15 or 16, Gary had charmed some of his schoolmates' parents by hand-picking small tattoos on their kids’ pristine hide with a home-made needle/thread/eraser rig he  says he still has somewhere. Grandma should have smelled trouble by then, right?
Not yet fully realizing his ink aspirations, Dad got work driving a truck for the local incinerator in Inkster, and married a pretty local girl named Sharon Hedger he'd met at Palmer Road Baptist Church in Westland. Together they produced 2 boys - Gary Roscoe Johnson and John Clarence Johnson, both of whom would eventually follow Gary into the tattoo trade.
Dad got his first “professional” tattoo at a little shop outside Ft. Wood, Missouri during basic training for the US Army. His enlistment didn't pan-out, but getting that crude $6 heart and dagger tat was enough to convince him he wanted to follow the INK. But it was 1965, and the 23 year old found that it wasn't that easy to get into the tattooing trade; his persistence paid off, though, as he began to acquire equipment, develop his tattooing skills and network with suppliers, other artists, and build his artistic reputation.
By 1969, he was able to open his first tattoo shop in the Detroit area, Westland's House of Tattooing. He would later pass "House" on to partner Marty, and continue to ink elsewhere in Michigan. My brother John was more enthusiastic than me to learn the trade, but went on an enlistment in the Navy after doing so. His enlistment finished a few years later, he worked as a welder, before combining resources with Gary to open Johnson Tattoo, located in nearby Taylor.
I'd done some hobby tattooing as far back as 1981, when dad gave me my first tattoo machine, and had also begun to perform an occasional basic body piercing, when pressured. By the time I decided to focus professionally on tattooing and piercing at Johnson, I’d done a couple of years Commercial Design at CCS in Detroit, survived an enlistment in the Army, and had done menial graphic slave labor all over Toronto for about 10 years.
If you want the truth, I was not exactly keen at first to skewer human flesh body-piercing style. Tattooing seemed much less intrusive- a kind of  inky “controlled abrasion.” I seemed to be getting positive feedback on the body piercings though, so I got over the queasy initial impulses and worked to improve my technique up to professional standards.
In all humility, God Bless all who endure a tattooist’s or piercer’s early experiments.
John and Gary had apprenticed our cousin Tammy Hubbard, so she was brought in after John moved to his private studio, Cherokee Creek, in nearby Garden City. My cousin Nick Johnson also apprenticed and laid much quality ink at Johnson before opening his own shop in Jackson.
Anyway, that's how we got to our current state of affairs. Today Roscoe, Tammy, and a third artist maintain independent contracts under the Johnson name, and are proud to carry on the tradition of fine ink that Gary started over 35 years ago.

Custom Tatoos Biography

The origin of the word tattoo is usually traced to the Tahitian tatu or tatau, which means to mark or strike (the latter referring to traditional methods of applying the designs). In Japanese the word used for traditional designs or those that are applied using traditional methods is irezumi ("insertion of ink"), while "tattoo" is used for non-Japanese designs."
Almost every civilization has some kind of practice or ritual involving tattooing. Natives from Africa, Borneo, Polynesia, Philippines, and Mesoamerica still use tattoos as either religious or war symbols. Same in Japan and China, where tattoos were in common usage among warriors and shamans.
Perhaps the oldest example of tattooing is "Ötzi the Iceman," a frozen mummy dating from the Neolithic period (around 3300 BC). Found in a glacier of the Ötztaler Alps, between Italy and Austria, Otzi exhibits tattoos that resemble small dashes along the lumbar region and on the legs. Of his 57 tattoos, most are located on what today are considered acupuncture points, leading anthropologists to believe the tattoos were used for medicinal purposes.
Other examples of the ancient use of tattoos are three mummies found in the Altai Mountains in Siberia. All three (two men and a woman) were heavily tattooed with animal designs, and one of the men also sported dots along the spinal column and around the right ankle.
The Gauls, Norseman, Saxons, and even the Greeks used tattoos as symbols of their social or career status, a practice especially common among soldiers and sailors. Banned in the 8th century by Pope Hadrian, the practice of tattooing disappeared from Western culture until the last part of the 18th century, when Captain James Cook introduced the word tattoo (up until then, it had been known as "staining") by describing a practice he had observed on a voyage to Tahiti. Later on, tattoos became almost exclusively associated with criminals and sailors until World War I, when the practice started gaining popularity outside their initial range.Svetlyo started practicing tattooing at a very early age and by the time he was 17, he got hired in one of the most popular studios in the capital of Bulgaria. For the next six years, he perfected his skills, style, and knowledge in the field. He received numerous recognitions, prizes, press publications, and TV appearances throughout these years.
On the sixth year of his professional experience, Svetlyo was invited to move to Sweden by one of his most beloved friends, Mattias Lundberg. The first idea there was to explore the Scandinavian tattoo culture as much as possible by going to guest spots in different places around the country. Soon, Svetlyo decided to establish Dream Masters Custom Tattoos Sweden together with Mattias’ supplying company, Lundberg Custom Tattoo Supplies. Both explored the wide range of the best tattoo equipment existing on the world’s market. Throughout the five years of working in Sweden, Sveltyo was invited to all of the most established and renowned tattoo parlors, had work offers all over Europe, and competed internationally with his Swedish label. He also became a member of the Swedish Professional Tattoo Association and fully adopted their high standards for hygiene.
After five years in Sweden, Svetlyo was able to branch out and open his new shop, Dream Masters Custom Tattoos Sweden, in the heart of San Francisco, North Beach, which is one of the most historical areas for the American tattoo culture. Svetlyo brought with him his high quality of work and high hygiene standards based on the rules and regulations of the Swedish Professional Tattoo Association. His goal is to have a high-end tattoo parlor with a unique style and spirit brought from the European tattoo style of work.

When you check these two, you should also check you other machine to see if it will work. If it in fact is the machine and is not fixable at that moment, you can always switch your needle bar and tube to the other machine and be able to reset the point gap in order to finish the tattoo.
If your machine just won’t work at all, you probably have an open in your circuit or a shortage. You want to make sure all your points are clean at first. The circuit will break if there is something caught between them. To open the contact hold the armature bar down with your thumb and blow hard on the points. If the blowing doesn’t clean them then you can try pulling a small strip of paper through the points when they are closed or use a nail file to clean out the contact. Then if that works you might want to readjust the point setting slightly so that you get that “buzz” at the right sound again.

Tatoo Care Biography

Thanks for taking time to read this Tattoo Aftercare recommendations.
First of all, there is no “ultimate recipe” or prescription for “perfect healing”. Everybody’s body is different. Some of us bleed more than the others and coagulate slowlier or scab more. Everyone heals and peels at a different rate as well. You must observe your own body’s reactions throughout the healing process and adjust our General Tattoo Aftercare recommendations to your individual needs. Different tattoo artists and tattoo parlors have a different idea about the right or sufficient tattoo aftercare. You have to find the one fits for you best
Second of all,  NOT THE OINMENT heals the wound, but your body. These man made elixirs only promots the healing and keeps the potecntial source of infections away. Your wound heals from inside out!!! Don't forget this and don't wait miricle if you treat your tattoo like "shit". GENERAL Tattoo Aftercare” is based on our long years of experience and exchanges with our customers and been proven for fitting best for most of the skintypes..
- The second care sheet is from a client from Las Vegas J. His detailed advice is based on his experience in caring for his tattoo’s while getting two full-size sleeves .
This  sheet is to advise  you  about the importance and  methods  of caring for your new tattoo. The  after-care  process  is very important to the  proper healing and ultimate “success” of your tattoo. We did a good  job of creating your tattoo; please don’t mess it up by being lazy and notfollowing these recommendations. A newly rendered  tattoo needs special care :
First : wash your hands  and apply the Hibiclens (antibacterial soap)  over the tattooed area. The Hibiclens should remove  all the unnecessary clotted blood-ink mixture along the potencial source of  infections and keeps the tattoo moisturized at  the same time.  Rinse the area well with lukewarm  (room temperature)  runningwater.  Don’t wash more than 2 times a day nor use the Hibiclens more than 3-4 days.  I suggest keeping it in the bathroom and using it every time  you take a shower.  After cleaning the tattoo, pat dry and rub the Aquaphor Healing Ointment over the tattooed part of your skin. It helps to protect  the  sensitive  skin  and reduce irritation.  Apply Aquaphour 3-4 times a day in a very light coat. Otherwise, you might get a reaction caused by the clogged skin pores. The skin needs to breathe.  Applying the  Aquaphor right  will help  to keep  the  skin sufrace  soft  and  prevent infection  and  drying  out.   After  the  peeling  period,  you  can  start  using  our  100% natural Tattoo Lotion.  By that time  the skin surface over  the tattoo  should be  healed  and  closed. A tattoo is much the  same as a  minor  cut or  any  other  skin  surface injury.  It is made up of thousands  &  thousands  of  pinpriscks, which will result in  a scab or crust.  If you let the crust to dry out or  crack open  and bleed, the blood may wash the ink out.  In this case the tattooed design will appear freckled.  This is not the tattoo artist ‘s fault.  It  is your responsibility to  take care of the tattoo when it is fresh to maintain the applied pigmentation correctly.
The most important things to do ( and not to do ) for perfect healing are as follows:
- Remove  bandage  in 3  hours.  Do not  re-bandage ! The bandage may stick into the scab and reopen the scabbed skin surface.  If fabric gets stuck to the tattooed One of the most frequently asked questions I get is “When did you start drawing?”. I have been drawing since I was old enough to hold a pencil. I was fascinated as a child by blueprints and technical drawings. I always loved drawing very detailed technical things; buildings, cars, helicopters, etc. That coupled with an interested in science and the natural world made me want to draw every animal I could, trying to replicate their environments and bring them to life.. The challenge of getting each drawing as “real” as I could make it was much more interesting to me then the abstract, impressionistic or surrealistic paintings that I saw in museums.
