Tatoo Equipment Biography

Timeless Ink Tour! Conventions are always a blast, but “Freaky Friday” came with its fair share of challenges. As luck would have it, Friday was one of the few days of the year in Phoenix that actually featured steady rain fall all day long. Loading up our gear in the rain made things interesting, but realizing at the convention center we had forgotten to pack a dolly definitely led to a change of plans. But with some creativity, steady stacking, and cautious steps, we got all of our gear into convention center.
Once inside, you could feel the energy building as vendors and artists rushed to frantically set up their booths. Some artists had been there for hours, meticulously making sure each piece was just right, while other booths stood vacant until the last possible moment. Even before the first box was unpacked, we had a sale. An anxious security guard was looking for Ink Fixx in preparation for his upcoming tattoo. As the unpacking progressed, so did the inquiries. “Hey, you guys got bibs?” “What about Madacide?” Luckily, it looked like we weren’t the only ones who had forgotten to double check their inventory list.
But artists in need hadn’t any reason to fear, for Superior Tattoo Equipment was there! From stencil paper to aftercare lotions and directions, from green soap and gloves to paper towels and tattoo needles, we had it covered. With minutes to spare, the booth was set up and we were ready for the crowd!
Once the doors opened at 2pm, apprentices, artists, people looking to get tattooed, and admirers of art flocked to the rows of tattoo booths, mini shops, clothing lines, piercing stations, and of course the Timeless Ink Girls.
Adjacent to the rows of tattooing nirvana, there was a large collection of custom cars for the car enthusiast to drool over.
From the vintage modified, chopped and slammed Impalas to can’t-believe-your-eyes modern day Camaro and Charger masterpieces, there was something for every car fan to ogle and wish for (Although I believe that most of the ogling happened back at the Timeless Ink Girls booth). There were custom rides with some incredible work, like fine, intricate details engraved on car parts like windshield washer arms, brake calipers, and even rotors, or custom air-brushed murals, or even wide-body fabrications! Truly amazing work by automotive artists!
The custom cars were definitely unbelievable works of art, but not as intricate as some of the human canvases we saw. One, in particular, completed by Alan Rogerson demanded more than a significant glance to take in all the elements in play. Using a variety of Starbrite inks, Alan amazed us yet again. (The Superior and Artistic buildings are literally covered in his artwork).
With Superior’s 21 year history, people tend to know you. Familiar faces came by, showed us their new pieces, checked out our new products, and just hung out for a while. It’s amazing to see faces from conventions from years past, and still talk and shoot the breeze as if no time has passed. Even some of our online customers stopped by, not realizing we were local to the Phoenix-area. After recognizing several of our displayed products, they made the connection. “I didn’t know you guys were local, now I can just come in.” We sure hope so. We love to get to know our customers, or just help out new ones with product questions or tattoo advice in general.
We met plenty of tattoo lovers, potential customers just browsing the convention hall. Countless products caught the eyes of passerby’s, but none as much as the hot sauce display.
Who can pass up that challenge? A variety of hot sauces ranging from mild mango to clear your sinuses ghost pepper, silently dared unsuspecting victims (I mean convention goers). While it was recommended starting easy with the mango and working their way up, not everyone followed the advice. “I love hot sauce” was quite often heard before someone shoved a chip dunked in the Killer Flamin’ Pepper tester. A slow, steady burn crept into their mouths and a layer of sweat built up on their foreheads as they could feel their taste buds burning off. Luckily, the beer garden was directly across from our booth, providing a refreshing beverage to sooth the en-flamed mouths of “Hot sauce lovers”. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a referral program offered by the beer garden staff.
The first night, something truly amazing happened. A group of friends that had been strolling the convention all day stopped by the hot sauce display. “This hot?” asked one of them, as he prepared to impress his friends. Even we in the booth knew this wasn’t going to end well. He took a chip, and dipped. A lot.
He started turning red, and told his friends the sauce was “unreal”. But his friend didn’t believe this claim. He looked me in the eye, and grabbed the entire cup of sauce while his boys egged him on. He raised the cup, tipped it back, AND DRANK IT. ALL.
He kept a straight face the entire time, even after he was done, as if his taste buds had gone numb and he was simply drinking ketchup. We were in awe, and had to reward him with a bottle of hot sauce, on the house.
As the weekend went by, the booths found themselves busier and busier, and Superior was right there to help with anything they might have needed. With many apprehensions, apprentices would inquire if we had a certain disposable combo. Our answer, “Yes!” With a constant wave of fresh flesh, who has time to autoclave tubes and grips? That’s the number one benefit of disposable combos - they’re ready when you need them, no wait. Disposable combo in hand, artists took to the skin for what would be a weekend full of tattoos.
